Challenge for Monday, August 19th

Your story must include the twist and the random word.

Our goal for Fiction Shorts has always been to present a publication that attracts readers because of its quality, and writers because of its community.

We know 100 words are not a lot, but please tell a story with a plot, a who, what, when, where, and why. It will help your reader connect if your character has a name. You want your readers to care. This is the challenge.

If you want people to read your work, read theirs. It’s that simple.

So, are you ready to play?

The word is the word. The only changes allowed are an ‘-ed’ or ‘-ing’ or an ‘s’. If it’s already one of those things, don’t change it. :)

Two of your tags must be Random and Drabble

New words are posted on Fiction Shorts every morning at 10 AM CST, or there about.

We don’t have time to find the date of a past word, so please add a line that says: The word on (date) was (word).

Where to find past words: If you want to write drabbles using past words, you can find them in the navigation bar across the top of Fiction Shorts on Medium under Daily Words. I’ve got them back to Day 20 but haven’t found the time to add 1–19. 🫣

Wondering why I moved the graphic to the end? It’s because it’s easier for me to copy and paste the verbiage in one fell swoop. (See below for a hysterical bit about the phrase ‘fell swoop.’)
